That sounds like the fusible link. If you remove it then you need to replace it with a 30A fuse or the ute will burn to the ground if there's a short.

I won't worry about wiring it, hopefully the ef falcon alternator comes soon, chuck it in, and get it to an auto elec to wire up. Btw i know the tentioning bracket needs moifying. Anyone know where i can get a pulley to suit this alternator? or will one of say a suzuki hatch work?

I think the weight of the 110amp ef alternator will be too much for the v-belt you have to use on the MB to match the crank pulley....

I have just put one on my 626 turbo and they are heavy to turn!!! (you might even notice the loss of acceleration in the MB because of it.... :) )

I don't think you will find a pulley to match as the 5pk belt on the ef is there for a reason....find a different alternator. 90amps is all you should need and are you sure there is enough space to fit it as the std. MB alternator only just fits?????

If you are pulling so much current you will need to wire in a higher grade fusible link otherwise it will blow all the time....but seriously unless you have a "sound off" stereo system or some other massive electrical device in the car you are wasting your time...

fair call...still seems a bit big though...are you sure you need 100/110amps?????

I would be happy with a 70amp alternator for size and load on the engine.... :D

Main reason really is price, 45 bucks, and pretty easy to install, only problem is the pulley. Anyone know where to buy v belt pulleys? also need a new alternator belt.

The standard alternator is ~30A, and apparently the replacement version is 50A. I don't see the point of straining the motor for 100A when 50A is plenty to run almost anything you could ever need.

Heck my standard 30A alternator runs my EFI setup with twin fuel pumps no worries.

The main reason is still price.

$45 sounds like a second hand unit from the wreckers.....definitely not a 'new' price.

If it's the case it is from a wreckers any alternator they have will be the same price.....less hassle with pulley's etc to find a smaller one.....not sure but what is the suzuki swift one like????

Swift alternator is 60A, same brackets as an MB alt but the pulley sticks out further from memory. I was going to try and fit one a few years back but at the time I couldn't work out how to remove the multi rib belt pulley. I might have another crack at it.

Yes second hand, but 3 month warranty.

It will cost 70 to get wired, thats 115, then a new belt, mines abit tired, that wouldnt be any more than 30. 145. Use my pulley off my alternator, free.

Thats way cheaper than the stock alternator.

I got it on my spare motor, just test fitting, bottom goes on with a squeez, like all alternators. Only prob is im going to need a custom adjusting bracket, not even my metal pipe could bend it so it fit, but it did fit when i moved the bolts, like the bottom to the top, and the top had nothing to bolt to. But it at nicely then.

Auto elec dudes going to go through his pulleys, see if he has a v belt to suit the shaft of the ef alternator.

Hey, Just thought i'd update on this. Got the Alternator and engine start button wired up. The alternator has 2 fuses in it, big red wire. Engines running abit rough, brake grease fixed the brake problem. Thanks for all your help. Oh now the back lights on the dash work, like oil light.

Oh also, the pulley i got for it, is from a eb falcon, exact same weight and size, just puts out 70 amp. So straining the belt wont be an issue, size, it fits nicely, only probly is i made the bracket abit to long, goes into the bumper, makes it a tight fit to get it on. It spins just as easy as my old one, and the hatch one.
