So just pulling the inside of the mighty boy apart to get some swift seats in it, and just wondering about the parcel shelf.

I have taken it out, and was just wondering what the hell it's actually there for?

Other than being a partially flat surface, does this actually do anything? Any sort of 'structual' support for anything? Or does it protect something?

I hate the little bit behind the seat and under the parcel shelf, always seem to lose shit in there so was going to look at just knocking something up out of a sheet of ply.

Anyone do anything to this area that I could check out?

It isn't structural, just provides a flat panel to cover the footwell area that is a legacy of the Cervo that the MightyBoy is based on.

You could pull it out or replace it with something else, but chances are whatever you use will be heavier.

Yep, have a look at my build thread. I pulled mine out and replaced it with a heavier false floor to mount some 6x9 speakers in. I think that it came up ok.
