now, which one is better than the two? i plan on doing custom turbo and i guess its going to be harder to find the turbo parts so my hunt is to begine with them, now i know the RHB 32 would be better because it is both water and oil cooled right? also how much are these things worth these days so i can get a rough price, i did see this IHI RHB 31 on ebay but not sure if its the one im after or no, or should i wait to get the IHI RHB 32? if anyone has any one of these for sale, a rough price would be great and we can go form there ,
kane....

RHB32 is oil lubricated only
RHB31 is oil lubricated and water cooled

32 is larger than a 31, and there are a multitude of different variations in the 31. Other options in the same size are a KKK turbo from a diesel Ford Transit or a Garrett GT12.

so obviosly the 31 would be better due to it has two cooling options as opposed to the 1? i guess you just hook the water lines to cool it from your radiator

31 is significantly smaller than the 32, RHB31 is made for the 550cc/660cc turbo engines, and the RHB32 is found on 1.0L and 1.3L engines.

If you have the budget, go a garrett GT15.

is the bolt on pattern the same or do you have to modify it to fit onto the manifold?

There's one for the DOHC and one for SOHC version, as the exhaust manifolds are significantly different.

The main thing to tell the difference is the orientation of the exhaust side flange (3bolt) to the edge of the engine/turbo.

I'm talking F5B (alto works) engine here, if you have a mightyboy, you will require a custom manifold replacement, perhaps a modification of the F5A powered alto works (mk1) exhaust manifold.

In other words, if you are upgrading from an n/a mightyboy or alto, whichever turbo you use, you will need to get items fabricated.

Not true mate, I'm running a standard cast F6A manifold on my F8B.

As for the confusion surrounding the RHB31 turbochargers, there are three variants that I know of, all of which are just different enough to make them non-interchangeable.

The variants span F5A/F5B/F6A/F6B with no real rhyme or reason, it would take a mountain of effort to uncover exactly which turbo goes with which model because some F5A motors have one turbo, but another model Suzuki with the same motor has a different one!
I know my F5A SOHC van has a different turbo to the F5A SOHC Alto, and the F6A SOHC Jimny turbo I have on my ute is different to the F6A SOHC Alto - pure madness I tell you!
