Drained my gearbox last night - ewww - what an 'orrible mess came out.

Now, before I refill it, I went wandering thru' the workshop manual but couldn't find anything specified.

I know gearbox oil is NOT motor oil, but is there any exotic grade etc. that works any better than "standard" gearbox oil in the MB gearboxes or will run-of-the-mill gearbox oil be fine?

Cheers

Auto or manual?

I stick with Castrol VMX80 in my manual boxes. I believe that you will find a few others will use the same.

Agreed. VMX80 goes great in Suzi gearboxes.
