Hi everyone.
pretty sure i have a leaking water pump.
loosing coolant slowly, have to top it up every now and then.
hard to see the actual leak though. i can hear a hissing sound around where the water pump is.
and can see some dripping from under the engine.
Has anyone replaced it themselves ?
I'm alright at fixing smallish problems, and i do the servicing myself.
The question is, would i be taking on too big of a project ?
Cheers
Craig

Yep, that'd be my guess too. Water pumps have a small bleed hole for water to leak from when the seals are gone, but it doesn't hiss.arklan wrote:edit: water pumps dont usually hiss, could be a hose?
Sounds like one of the rear coolant hoses (under the inlet manifold) has sprung a leak.

Thanks guys,
ive checked all the hoses, they look fine.
The leak seems to come from around the water pump area. looks like its coming from inbetween the timing belt cover and the motor.
Seems to leak from there and runs down near the exhaust manifold.
Is that the seal you were talking about brayden ?

The bleed hole is on top of the water pump, so when it starts leaking it generally runs down the side of the motor and drips off the bottom of the timing belt cover. Sometimes you might get a bit of coolant running down near the alternator bracket.
If coolant is running near the exhaust manifold then it could be a head/gasket related issue.

Well after topping it up every couple weeks it's booked into suziworld to get fixed.
Cause the other day i turned my car off and heard a hissing noise, so i popped the hood and had a look.
I saw a tiny bit of bubbling coolant coming from the head gasket
But they also think the water pump might have a leak too.
As when they pressure tested it, there seemed to be more coolant on the ground than what was coming out from the head gasket.
Fingers crossed it doesnt cost and arm and a leg
