Re: (NSW) Springtime Cruise - October 2011
For what its worth, I will still be going. Looks like my motor will be ready(fingers crossed) :-o The way I see it, It will be a weekend away with the misses and a chance to put some kms and run the motor in. To be quite honest I'm a little disappointed that more people haven't chosen to do this cru...

Re: Mighty boy/ticking noise
Im in the process of getting the motor back together. The engine builder said the oil pump is a little ordinary and a new one would be good.
Does anyone have any ideas where to source a new oil pump and rough price for an f8b?
Thanks

Re: My other toys
I had a 1985 Tx3 (KC) 16 years ago when I was an apprentice. True be told I always prefered the look of the later KE series with the round headlights and slightly different interior and sports steering wheel. Unfortunatley I just couldn't afford a decent one at the time so went with the KC. I rememb...

Re: Mighty boy/ticking noise
Thanks Brayden,
At this stage a list is good so I can ask the engine builder how much $ to do this etc...
How about skimming the head for more compression?

Re: Mighty boy/ticking noise
While my motors apart I wouldnt mind get some tuning work done to it. What are the best bang for your buck mods to a N/a F8b that can be done with "proven" results?

Re: Ball joints and front end issues
Very simple to check, Jack your front end up and grab the tyre and try and wiggle it side to side. there should be no movement. If you feel a distinct movement there a problem, probably lower control arm ball joint. you will be able to see it move as you wiggle the wheel/tyre front to back. Do it on...

Re: Mighty boy/ticking noise
Im definetly going to give it some loving. I said to my mechanic do what you think should be done. I want to get a bit of extra work done to it to make it a nice healthy/strong Na f8b.

Re: F5a /F8b engine cradle
basically to sum up, you have to use the f5a cradle in a MB(ss40t), auto or manual.

Re: F5a /F8b engine cradle
I bolted on the subframe that the motor was on as he dropped it from his MB with struts and all. I just cleaned it up pulled everything off. gave it some paint, new mounts and swapped it out for my auto subframe.

Re: F5a /F8b engine cradle
Brayden, Your spot on. I just found my old f5a bracket and measured it. This means that for 1.5 years ive been driving around with the drivers side of the engine 30 mm to far forward. the Thing is when I installed the motor it didnt look right and it explains why the rear lower mount broke after 6 m...

F5a /F8b engine cradle
Ive been doing some reading of old post. Im I correct in saying that there is a difference between the f5a(ss40t) and F8b(ss80v) drivers side engine cradle. The reason i say this is that I have always doubted how my engine lines up at the rear mount/gearbox mount  . While my engines out I can ...

Re: 88 alto struts / brakes into MB?
By the sounds of it they are similar to the sa strut. Do the matiz struts lower the car (25mm) like the sa struts or does it keep the ride height the same as the standard MB?

Re: Mighty boy/ticking noise
So we pulled the motor apart this morning and there it was. A blown headgasket between cylinders 1&2. That explains the compression issue and also the spark plug on Cylinder 1 was the material off the head gasket. So the rebuild now commences. The head will get sent to a specialist for some hand...

Re: Mighty boy/ticking noise
All shall be revealed soon. When I pulled the gearbox off the engine I noticed the Trust bearing(correct terminology?)has left a bit off an identation in the clutch fingers. Is this normal or an inproper adjusted free play? i.e dragg from the bearing. The bearing rolls easy but does have a bit of su...
