Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

The CAS didnt come back from the machinist until yesterday unfortunately :( but on the bright side, it ran today! A few little electrical gremlins (a silly mistake made while wiring a car up for the first time, at least the smoke didn't come out of the ecu :snigger: ), and a pinhole in a brazed wate...

Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

Well, the ECU finally arrived today! I say finally because of a phone call received from customs a few days ago regarding the private importation of an item to the worth of over $1000. Apparently the invoice entitles them to open the box up, have a look around, close it and whack a ~$200 duty on top...

Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

It's been over a week since an update, so here we are... There's been a fair bit of progress, over the last few days especially. IMG_0653.JPG Although it must be said that the engine bay is looking like a bit of a science experiment gone wrong at the moment! Since last time: Exhaust manifold complet...

Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

Hey all! Another day, another update Friday, a few new toys arrived :D . Namely the wastegate and coilpacks! Seriously did not expect them until after the weekend. This, however, means that progress can happen over the weekend (and considering I'm really stinging for a drive of this car again progre...

Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

From memory the new throttle body is 37mm, the old one was 34mm (only 3mm diameter difference). According to an engine building program the old throttle could flow 100 cfm on a naturally aspirated engine, the new one should flow 125 cfm under the same conditions (according to the same program). Not ...

Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

A couple more days, a little more progress CAS adapter is made, mounted the lot. Went in a slightly different direction to my original idea but it ought to work fine. Originally I was going to get a ring machined out of alloy or steel for the bits to fit into, ended up using nylon (i.e. a chopping b...

Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

Hi all, back again and a little earlier than expected. Before I get to the update on the build, would just like to say I had a decent conversation with the owner of the workshop where I spend most of my time regarding ECUs. Coming from a man who used to have a job tuning Zytek and Pectel ECUs, he sa...

Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

Not a problem benny, I don't really have too much of a problem with thread hijackery unless people start arguing instead of being constructive. Also, what Brayden said - an ECU is as good as a tuner can set it up. If your local tuner is familiar with Adaptronic, he will probably be able to get a bet...

Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

i dont see why it wouldn't work on that engine, but you'll need a reasonably decent ecu (i.e. Link G4 - sorry for being a link fanboy  ) the benefits are: individual coil packs - finer tuning, easier upgrade-ability, better reliability, engine bay presentation better control - finer tuning, ant...

Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

Brayden: the bumper will fit, but there is about -5mm clearance to the lower front rio that supports the bonnet catch etc., so i'll have to oxy and bend that around the wastegate pin casting on the exhaust housing or cut the rio with an air hacksaw / grind some of the rear housing away. similarly wi...

Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

 So you drove home with frozen bait taped to the ecu.so that makes it microsquid. Haha i like it! Could probably use the microsquid as a sinker too! Pretty pleased with the last couple of days progress, tacked together the new turbo manifold, made a flange and worked out how to set up the cas....

Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

again... months between updates, well, here goes. HSC exams are almost over which, obviously, leaves a little more time for some bonding over the spanner with the little green wheeled turd :P . The clutch had been gone in it since I re-did the head gasket and ran it up on the dyno (the motor loved t...

Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

@ holk

The bodykit still hasn't gotten past the "moulds" stage to be honest :( . The foam blocks are all on a shelf waiting to be made up, but since getting my P's and this being my only car...

hopefully i can get stuck back into the fun stuff in a few months when exams have finished.

Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

Jeez, almost 2 months since the last update to the build thread... tisk tisk, well a little bit has gone down since the last lot of photos, e.g. IMG_0876.JPG My father came back over from NZ again for a short time and, as usual, a little progress was made on the rig. Although not an original colour ...

Re: Rogan's Alto Works Project

After the "unfortunate" writing off of my mothers car, I realised the need to relocate some of her uninsured automotive accessories: pimp spec. alto works... IMG_0456.JPG IMG_0452.JPG so long story short: 4" 2 way pioneers in the front (reasonably thrashed but half decent quality) 6x9...
