Are the factory F5A and F8B starter motors identical? :|

Just curious, because the F5A starter motor that Colin and I installed on my new F8B seems to struggle just a tad when cranking the sucker over...

New engine?
Could it just be a little tight till everything is run in?

I can't see any difference mate, did you use the starter off the F5A on your new motor, or are you using an F8B starter that may be cactus?

No, it's the starter motor fitted to the F5A I've been getting around with for the past little while.

It doesn't struggle badly, but I've certainly noticed that on starts where the engine is already resting on a compression cycle it doesn't handle the situation with great ease... wondered if a gruntier unit was supplied with factory F8Bs...

Isn't your engine running higher compression than standard? That could well be the difference.

Compare it to mine next time you're around. ;)

More likely Suzuki shipped both engines with the same starter units and I'm just noticing the marked difference between the two I suspect... but yeah... let's do that...
