Since mine were completely stuffed, i've been searching for replacements - here's what i've got so far

Original suzuki sports part number : 4FJ36-F20 (made by KYB)
* I don't think all works' got suzuki sport - mine might be special *

Replacement Suzuki Sports part numbers:
4MJ36-F21 - Right hand side
4MJ36-F26 - Left hand side
15,500yen each (~$180AUD) - still trying to get a price landed in australia (SA)

A local suspension workshop has also found a Koni Sport which is similar to my current stuffed SS items - haven't got much detail about it yet (except it has a different shaft diameter) -- but $430 for the pair

I asked Greenline.jp for a quote on race suspension (stage 1) for my car.

Here's what they said:

To which I said:

I have one question I'd like to ask before proceeding with the transaction.
Is duty payable on this item or is it included in the price.
If duty or other taxes need to be paid, when and how are they paid and
roughly how much would they be in total.

Also, I'd like to change my payment method to direct bank transfer.
Their reply
Greenline wrote:Hi Dave,

Hope you are well. Our service includes only the products and shipping
costs. Packages may be subject to tax and/or duty upon entry to the
destination country.

Greenline Motorsports are not tax agents and because we deal
internationally, it is not possible for us to know the import tax systems
for every country in the world.
From our experience in Australia, the import system works as follows:
Cost of products + 15% (maximum) import duties + cost of shipping + 10% GST.
Note that for some parts such as engine management, there is 0% duties and
3% for turbos.

Although not a guarantee, we have found that small items under the value of
AU$1000 are not generally inspected and pass through without the need to pay
duties or GST. We do what we can to minimise the tax that needs to be paid
in the case where the package is inspected in Japan before the package is
shipped. Supplementary documentation can be supplied if required. We
advise that you contact the local customs authority if you require further
information on importing into Australia.

Pricing information as requested:
Suzuki Sport STEP 1 Height Adjustable Suspension Set 4NS36-S71: 138,600 yen
Shipping: 37,000 yen
TOTAL: 175,600 yen AU$2042
To which I shuddered violetly to.
2042 and then another 10% and duties?
For suspension (and at a lesser cost than on the suzuki sport website)?

*backs away slowly*

Yours sounds like a better deal man.

If your after cheap then 86 Swift struts will fit. You have to do a slight mod to them as the hole centres in the strut to connect them to the alto steering knuckles are 57mm and you need 55mm. 1mm off each hole will see them lining up and the bolts and lock washers cover this 1mm easy. I used the entire macpherson strut assembly when i tried it (strut, spring, top mounting etc) but i think the struts on there own are compatible.

The only other thing is you need the 86 swift brake hoses as the clamps that hold the rubber hose to the strut are 90 degrees out compared to 89 alto. This put an unacceptable amount of stretch on them when you try to spin them to fit.

This isnt going to get you height adjustable or anything and the ride height is about 20mm higher than i would have liked but thought id put it out there for general knowledge. At least when you go to pedders and say you have an 86 swift they dont look at you quite so strangely.
