Hi,

Does enyone know of any alternator thats a straight bolt on,

I've read that an alternator from a 87 nimbus will fit, but they are 65amp.

Just wondering if there is a more powerful one out there.

I have an 120amp alternator, but i've been told its too big & that the alternator will draw a fare bit of power from the engine. considering its only a F5A, its a snail as it is.

Thanks
Craig

Just get the standard unit rewound to produce more power. At least that way you know it will fit and it won't rob any power from the motor.

I spoke to auto elec and he's said you dont get much more out of it, and the extra bit you get is only while driving, and you actually get less amps at idle.
But it might be my best option. :(

I have a landcruiser alternator fitted to mine. 100amps, had to weld a new bracket. Oil filter got in the way to so i had to fit a smaller oil filter.
Runs really good. Got two subs, splits and two amps running of it. Underbody neons and headlights on doesn't seem to make a dent in the draw. I have got a 20 faren capacitor to get fitted soon. Yes i did say 20 faren. Got it from good ol US of A.

Hi iceman,

Just curious, do you have a F5A or F8B?

Also does it draw power from the engine? , especially from a big load of bass.

What subs and amps do you have? how many watts are you running?

Thanks

Interesting topic. Something i need to think about, when idling with my headlights on my alternator doesn't seem to be able to produce enough & manages to make the engine stall if i also try & run the wipers or the cd player, or even the heater fan.

I think it's time for a new alternator. All the earth points on the car are in good shape. I can't really get a physically bigger alternator as i need some room to fit turbo gear in a little bit.

I wonder about the alternator from a daewoo matiz F8c?

Cheers

F8B bored out 40thou with a ground cam and a ported inlet manifold with a 30/30dic weber carby. Plus a 2 1/2 exhaust.

Running two kickers 500 watt subs with a 600 watt kicker mono amp. Plus a pioneer head unit and another 1000 watt 4 channel sony explode (don't hold that against me) feeding power to a 6" splits and a set of 6x9 kickers. With all that running i stuffed two batteries already. Way to much draw on a battery when you are only charging it with a 40 amp alternator. So i changed to the landcruiser 100amp one fitted a h/d battery and away she went. With all the neons, leds, black lights, sub woofer lights and stereo blasting my voltage needle moves about 3mm when the base kicks
I don't seem to lose much power.

Good news,

I got a bigger alternator, its a 110amp of an EF Falcon, it uses the same spacing mount, but needed a modification to the tension backet.

It is better than before, but i might need to upgrade my wiring some more.

There is a slight power loss to the engine, but only when its under load.

I hope this helps some others too.

An EF 110amp alternator? Do you have any pics of this setup? I've got 2 or 3 spares at home, spares for my EB you have seen, which also has a modified EF alternator fit to it. Std EB is 70amps. I've got a couple of them spare as well, which would be what, double the mighty boy / alto standard?

I should slap my "spare" F8b together on the stand & fit a ford alternator to it & see how it fits - see if i'd still have room for the turbo. I imagine i might if i fit a remote oil filter kit?

Cheers
