Is there some way to check it out? Coz my boy has an f8b already (news to me, with the power and all...) Bit it does sound like it's revving hard... How do I id the box?

drive it the ratios are different if its reving its head off at 110kmh its a 543cc box the 800 box will alow you to keep going faster

There's the problem... I don't know how many revs it's doing. All of my previous cars have been smooth six cylinders doing less than 2000rpm on the highway. A 3cyl sounds like it's working too hard to me at 5500 AND 4000rpm. Are there numbers I can look for?

There is a marking on the bottom of the gearbox. There is a circle underneath, about 12-15 cm across and it should have a 5 on it(and some other stuff) if it is for the f5a. I think this is right, happy to be corrected if I'm wrong :)

You're right, there are numbers on the round inspection plate. Can't remember what they are off the top of my head but will check.

My 500 gearbox has 671-A (for f5a) on the plate and the 800 one has nothing that I could see.
