Any info if this is original factory option
My Hatch 800cc factory manual makes no mention to it, although it only covers 1st and second printing (1982) and i know there has been hatches since

Yes, rear seats only appeared on hatches initially as an sftermarket add on.
The dealers were never really alowed to sell or advertised the "passenger based commercial" hatch for the pasanger market as they were only allowed to get them here in Australia as commercial vehicle.
Very quickly they found that these very cute and super easy to drive economical cars were being snaped up by ordinary punters who liked the idea of very cheap commuting. Soon the dealers realised that a few extra accoutrements could sell more cars; they did.Subaru with their sherpa and Daihatsu with their handi-van were in on the act as well.
The original 1980 hatch was offered with option side windows as the standard was a piece of coloured sheet metal in place of the window just as the big panel vans. Most hatchs are still classified as PVN on their registration papers. .... ANYWAY ..... the last hatch was offered between 1984 and 1985, The VX hatch (square light hatch) had a digital speedo, a cigar lighter, chrome centre piece hub caps, carpet, european "alto" style seat (similar to mighty boy) with velour trim, including on the door trims. rear demister, intermittent wiper, split 50/50 rear seat and AM/FM radio.
Rear seats are hard to find especially in the 50/50 split style. Try finding a rear seat with seat belts. I have r/seat and belts if you want to purchase????
But to finalise all Mighty boy lovers must sing praise to the hatch for if the hatch was not a success, we would never have received the mighty boy in Australia; (the ONLY country in the world apart from japan that sold the mighty boy).... and it would be much harder to find the fabulous F8B that the mighty boy really should have always had standard.

They did the same thing with the sierra many of the early 1l ones are plated 2 seats but had 4 factory seats. Where were the split seats mount locations in the hatch?

and PVN .. hatches are classes as a Panelvan
you should see the looks from people when you tell them you have a hatch they look again thinking you told them it was the body shape not the model

I forgot to mention that there was also a neat upgrade of the hatch dash some time in mid 1983, if you are rebuilding a hatch it may be a good idea totry and find this dash. From time to time you they do pop up on ebay but, it's a case of good timing and luck.
The 50/50 rear spilt seat has no real support they just seemed to reinforce the back of the seat with a thicker gauge metal, which given it's size, adds to its rigidity. To put a rear seat, it is pretty simple. Take out the rear tray and rack, throw it away and bolt in the seat. The bastard is getting the seat belts in. This is a little fiddly but a must if you ar going to haul dare devil humans.
the model is universaly called a SS80V (or ss50V for the F5A buzz box)
In europe they came out in a 4 door but the rear hatch was solid only allowing for the rear window to be hinged, there As I have mentioned they were called the "ALTO". I guess in the trade protection days in Australia giving this car an actual name and hence identity meant that people may have though they were real passenger vehicles.

I have the 1985 Hatch VX dashboard with digital speedo installed in my MightyBoy. This is not a particularly good shot of it, but take a look:

The information above regarding the back seats in the Hatch applies also to the later model (86-88) Australian Alto as well, and I happen to have one with a 50/50 split fold back seat sitting in my backyard.

Hi - another new member here.. I now own a red `83 Suzuki SS-80G, completely stock standard which has gone about 150,000k (I think - it only has 5 digits on the odo after all...)
Anyway, I've had a few small cars before, a stock honda city, a stock mini 1000, and a race tuned mini 1300 which was bloody fun to drive I can tell you. And so now I have the Suzuki which is also great fun to drive apart from a few issues like the rear suspension. I'm a bit short on funds at the moment so any modifications are gonna have to wait - I really should replace the CV's first as theyre absolutely poked.
But getting back on to topic, what I really wanted to talk about was these back seats for the "hatch" as you aussies call it.. I'm pretty sure theres tons of these in NZ, mines got some, complete with seatbelts - In fact I think it would be harder to find the ss80v (the panelvan model) over here than one with seats.. Then there's the four door version as well, theres a couple of examples here:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 991227.htm

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 145524.htm

and heres some more search results from trademe:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/list ... anced=true

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Alto, the SS-40/80 and the Hatch are all the same car aren't they?

Right.. I'm off to wax my car :D
