The ball bearing (or valve, depending on model of carby) is for the idle circuit. If you have fuel running through the second venturi all the time then your secondary throttle butterfly needs adjusting so it closes properly. Be carefull though, adjusting it to close 100% will cause vacuum lock and the secondary won't function at all.

All good now, had already done as you said, the problem was when I first got the car the secondaries weren't working and the venturi was just floating around due to Mr bodgie previous owner, any how I fixed that and the secondaries were working, Trouble was I missed that the top air bleed hole was blocked, so as causing a ciphon effect once the fuel started getting thru. But it went like the wind and drank like a V8. Seems all good now. Thanks for the help.
