hey guys,
so heres how it goes, i first got my car about a month ago and it was running really well. then i went on a dirt track. and now when my car is iddleing it has constant revs (as it should be!) and then it just dies a bit then picks up again. and it has got to a shittier stage now that i have to keep the revs up so it don't stall. also if i go along a long road at fast speed then slowly change down through gears it stalls (so i have to bump start it and rev it to the shit hows at intersections). i tried adjusting the revs and the advance and retard thingy with my dad (as the distibuter had come loose). but we still cant get around it dieing out as it tries to idle. so can anyone guide me in the right direction or does anyone know of someone around the goldcoast who can tune it for me.

Check to see if any of your vacuum hoses have come off.
Particularly the one to the distributor .
Check your points and their wiring (it may have come loose)
Check the wiring to you ignition coil
Check your high tension leads (plug wires and coil wire)
Any of these may become disturbed on a rough road .

Similar problem with mine, but may not be yours, but try removing mixture screw while running with a little bit of revs to keep running and then replace. Sound like you may have two problems .Loss of idle could be caused by a blockage in the idle circuit and or secondary idle circuit problem (do you smell fuel and is it hard to start) You also said your disy moved, if no timing light do a static timing, Turn motor over too TDC Top dead centre compression stroke (remove number one plug turn over by hand until you feel compression and line up your flywheel TDC mark. Remove disy cap turn on ign and rotate disy in direction of rotation until pionts just open (spark) and that will be resonablly close, or enough for a idle.. That should eliminate your timing issue and see where that leaves you. If still a problem I would go with a carby issue. Don't forget to have a look at those pionts (gap) . Could even be a lead issue??? You need to isolate some of these .Also if it is sucking air (say vaccum hose has come of or hole will make erratic rpm)

i had exactly the same problem not long ago :)

took it to a carby place to tune it.. it was a blocked idle circuit. try blowing some compressed air and blow thru idle jet and circuit.

although mine is a weber, it sounds just like what i had. runs well now.
