Just wondering if anyone, anywhere, has put a hayabusa engine in the back of the mightyboy, driving the rear axle via a sprocket.

Would be a relatively easy build too, if you could get everything mounted safely.

300HP with a turbo :)

Keep the stock engine in the front for weight balance.

Just my brain constantly thinking over crazy mods.

I tried drawing a few pictures but my artistic ability has turned to shit at this point.

Would obviously need a new rear axle, and if it was possible to mount it N/S you could drive it via a driveshaft rather than a sprocket.

The ultimate suzuki :)

Of course you could take it all the way and put one in the front as well, craziest AWD car since the pikes peak escudo.

Many have dreamt up and queried that one. :)

Aside from the a lack of torque the engine would be suffering I think one of the biggest hurdles would be establishing power delivery to the wheels. Even in a RWD / FWD only scenario having to chain drive some kind of light-weight modular differential would be a bit of a root... Let alone this mysterious compatible AWD system you've dreamt up.

Hey if they can shoehorn two V8's into an old Holden ute ("BLOBAK2" if anyone is old enough to remember) then anything is possible. ;)

I think the biggest issue would be a lack of reverse gear. :?

Highly possible, quite plauseable idea. Obviously just a muck around car but i think it would go really quite well. I dont see tourque being an issue and given enough know how the drivetrain issues shouldnt hold you back for too long
I am no engineer, but most of what i say is based on this

http://www.situne.no/index.php?id=101

If a CBR900RR engine can do that to an Escort, i am sure that a Hayabusa 1300CC Turbo engine would make an MB feel like a pretty little rocket.

The most impressive thing by far would be seeing a shiny set of RS-3 exhausts popping out and the sound the little beast would make.

Somewhere floating around is a little vid of a GoKart with a Busa engine in it on a track (not the KartVader DVD, i think he just has an R1 engine)

The motor can be tuned for torque easily enough, also you make a good point about the diff, the idea i had about sprocket to the axle would make for a solid rear axle, fun but not desirable.

Are there any examples of a chain drive with diff?

Edit: Harley trikes have been using chain drive and belt drive hooked up to diffs... http://www.dingbobtrikes.com/article_harleysoftail.htm I'm sure theres some chopper shop out there with diffs to suit (perhaps not 300HP though!)

they put them in race/road versions of the lotus super 7 so i cant c why torque would be a problem

was a guy showed up at our local car club a few years ago with an r1 powered...thing? it was like a scaled down dune buggy. didnt get a real good look at it due to the crowd around it all day, but from what i could tell and what i overheard the owner telling someone, had a shaft welded to the drive sprocket running back to a diff from i think it was a datto 1200 or something, solid live axle, which had a sproket welded to it, with a chain running back down the lenght to drive the frront wheels. dont ask me how this arrangement worked cos i didnt see it, and was on track when the guy was explaining it. take the chain off instant 2wd for tracks like phillip island, back on for dirt tracks like ours, or tight tracks like winton etc..

only ever came out once, havnt seen the guy since, wasnt a local.
and i owned no camera back then :x

but yeah there was a busa engine for sale on ebay a few weeks ago, thank god i didnt have the moneys or i would of been thinking this same thing

Thats a kart with a Suzuki GSXR1000 engine in it, i guess the guy doesnt care how quickly his tyres or skin lasts.

Seriously contemplating this for a project once the alto is on the road.

http://www.quaifeamerica.com/Motorcycle ... lecars.htm

Seems to be plenty available in the chain drive diff area, $2000 gets me one with reverse, which was one of my issues.

With the front engine removed, ballast is needed, I'd take a queue from ferdie here and fill the whole bloody engine bay with speakers, that oughta be heavy enough!

i can only imagine how f*#king beautiful the machine would look in the end with the engine and custom pipes. Main concern now is the weight balance, and the ability to fit a decent rear axle that gives power to the wheels, nothing stock would match the width.

More thoughts on torque & sound. How horny would a big v-twin sound? The engine in the Kawasaki Vulcan (1700cc V-Twin) only puts out 120HP, but also has an amazing 120ft.lb of torque compared to the busa's 100ft.lb. But the sound... oh the sound!! Imagine a mighty boy that sounds like a harley. The boy will have grown up to be one badass* man!

* I use 'badass' under duress, 'badarse' just doesnt fit.

I've been considering this project for years.

It would be a serious undertaking, and considering that registering a mightyboy with that kind of engine in it would be impossible, then I'd prefer a tubular frame with fully adjustable suspension and all that to concentrate entirely on track work.

Something to inspire: http://www.zcars.org.uk/mini/mini_twin_rl.htm

I'll have a word to the engineer next time i speak to him about the alto compliance, see if its possible to register it as an ICV. Would require all new brakes (which i'd want to do anyway), and probably other things.

Once i get some cash together, saving up as much as possible before buying a house, i'm planning on building a PRB Clubman during a 6 months hiatus from work. Probably 20V 4AGZE powered.

But what can i say, i'm gay for the mighty-boy at the moment.

Yep, i'd also attempt to make a hard-top for it, from my limited (but soon to be expanded) fibreglass technique. Would make it the complete car, i reckon.
