Origins

The start of what would become Team MightyBoy happened almost by accident in 2001, when a couple of owners crossed paths, became friends, and decided to form a group for enthusiasts.

From those humble beginnings the next couple of decades brought together people from all across Australia for cruises, conversations and good times.

The early years (2002-2010)

This was a time before social media, and the group grew slowly by word of mouth. We built ourselves a presence on the web and started linking up with owners across the country.

The banner for this group of MightyBoy enthusiasts was 'The Australian MightyBoy Owners Network (TAMON)' and we started organising cruises on the east and west coasts, and building a community through a discussion forum that allowed us to share information, tips, tricks, and projects.

Our first ever event was in 2001, piggybacking on a huge RedlineGTI.com Sydney cruise for Suzuki Swifts. We only had a small number of MightyBoys, but attracted a lot of attention from the Swift crew, who were curious and keen to check out their smaller Suzuki siblings.

From this point we began to grow, organising our own cruises in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Although there weren't a huge number of utes at any of these events, seeing half a dozen MightyBoys in convoy always drew plenty of eyeballs — and more importantly everyone who came along always had a great time!

On top of the cruises, there were ute shows for owners to show off their pride and joy, and track days to test the limits of driver and machine.

Evolution (2010 - present)

Coinciding with the first Albury Cruise in 2010, the group evolved to become 'Team MightyBoy' — this name better reflected the spirit of the group, and it was also much easier to remember!

The 2010 Albury Cruise was also our largest event, with over a dozen MightyBoys in attendance. Owners came from Melbourne, Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra and regional New South Wales. This event became an annual tradition for the next few years, before going on hiatus.

Over time, owners came and went as their lives and circumstances changed. We saw friendships and relationships grow, and even a few weddings along the way!

As social media became the dominant way to communicate, interest in cruises and meets dropped off. Hopefully in the future that will change and we'll start to see more utes out in the real world.

Team MightyBoy has endured for two decades through the efforts of many people — those who help start it all in the beginning, everyone who organised or participated in an event or helped another owner with information and knowledge.

While there are dozens of people who have contributed, special thanks must go to Josh, Chris, Dave, Mark, Tez and Ceej for being the initiative, brains and dedication behind the scenes at various points along the journey so far.

Here is a selection of photos from events we've held over the past two decades.
